Joliet Native and U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber, Appointed by Reagan, Dies at 87
Jun 12, 2024, 02:21 AM
U.S. District Judge Harry D. Leinenweber, a legal giant from Joliet, has died at the age of 87. Leinenweber served as a federal judge for nearly four decades and presided over some of Chicago's most significant trials, including the 'ComEd Four' case. Known for his calm temperament, common sense, and impeccable knowledge of the law, he was respected by lawyers on both sides. Leinenweber, who had served in the Illinois General Assembly before being nominated to the federal bench by President Ronald Reagan, announced an illness earlier this year. Chief Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer described him as a friend, mentor, and model jurist, expressing deep sadness over his passing and gratitude to his family for sharing him with the judiciary for over 39 years.
