Russia Expels British Diplomat Edward Pryor Wilkes Over Espionage, Summons UK Ambassador
Nov 26, 2024, 12:12 PM
Russia has expelled British diplomat Edward Pryor Wilkes, the second secretary of the political department at the British Embassy in Moscow, accusing him of espionage and subversive activities, according to reports from Russian news agencies Interfax and TASS. Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) alleged that Wilkes carried out intelligence work threatening Russia's security and provided false information upon entering the country. The FSB stated that Wilkes was sent to replace one of six British diplomats expelled in August on similar charges. In response to the incident, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned British Ambassador Nigel Casey. This development further strains relations between Russia and the United Kingdom.
