Former Colorado Clerk Tina Peters Sentenced to Nine Years for Dominion Voting Data Breach
Oct 3, 2024, 07:13 PM
Former Mesa County Clerk Tina Peters, a 69-year-old Gold Star mother, was sentenced to nine years in prison for her role in a voting system data breach involving Dominion Voting Machines. Peters was found guilty in August on multiple charges, including attempting to influence a public servant and violation of duty. She led a scheme to breach her county's elections computer system, inspired by false claims that fraud altered the 2020 presidential election. Judge Matthew Barrett stated during sentencing, "You are no hero. You abused your position and you're a charlatan. You cannot help but lie as easy as you breathe. You cared about the jets, the podcasts, and the people fawning over you." Peters allowed an associate connected to Mike Lindell to access and copy sensitive voting machine data, which was later disseminated. Her actions have been blamed for fueling a national movement to undermine trust in U.S. elections, and the sentence reflects the severity of her offenses.
