NYC Becomes First Major East Coast City to Transition 12,500 Vehicles to Renewable Diesel Fuel
Oct 4, 2024, 02:17 PM
On October 3, 2024, New York City announced it has successfully transitioned its entire fleet of 12,500 heavy-duty and off-road diesel vehicles to renewable diesel fuel, making it the largest city in the country and the first major East Coast city to make this significant leap. This initiative, part of the city's #GetStuffDone campaign, is expected to eliminate approximately 162 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually, contributing to cleaner air and lower carbon emissions. The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) is now using renewable diesel in more than 240 firehouses and EMS stations citywide. The city's Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) led the initiative, further solidifying New York City's commitment to sustainability and environmental leadership.
