Meta Licenses Horizon OS to Microsoft, Lenovo, ASUS; Aims to Be 'Windows of XR'

Meta Platforms Inc. has announced a significant shift in its business strategy by licensing its Meta Horizon OS, previously known as Quest OS, to third-party hardware makers. This move allows other companies to create devices that utilize Meta's operating system, which powers the Meta Quest VR headsets. The first companies to partner with Meta on this initiative include Microsoft, Lenovo, and ASUS. This strategic decision is aimed at expanding the ecosystem for developers and providing consumers with more choices in hardware. Meta is positioning itself as the 'Windows of XR devices' with this open platform strategy, and has also renamed its Meta Quest Store to Meta Horizon Store.
