Raiders Fire Antonio Pierce After 4-13 Season; Tom Brady to Influence Coaching Search
Jan 7, 2025, 08:42 PM
The Las Vegas Raiders have fired head coach Antonio Pierce after a disappointing 4-13 season, according to multiple reports. Pierce, who compiled an overall record of 9-17 during his tenure, oversaw a team that endured a 10-game losing streak and failed to win any games against AFC West opponents for the first time since 2006. In their season finale, the Raiders lost 34-20 to the Los Angeles Chargers, securing the sixth overall pick in the upcoming draft. Owner Mark Davis met with Pierce at the team's facility to deliver the news. The Raiders have struggled with coaching stability in recent years; Davis will now be hiring his sixth head coach since taking over the franchise in 2011 and seventh in the last 10 years. Minority owner Tom Brady is expected to have significant influence in the search for Pierce's replacement, with potential candidates including Mike Vrabel and Brian Flores, both of whom have close ties to Brady. Despite the team's poor performance, several players expressed support for Pierce after the season. Pierce acknowledged areas for personal improvement, stating, 'What I need to do a better job of, I need to go with my gut.'
