The recent presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump attracted significant viewership, with Nielsen reporting 67.135 million viewers tuning in across 17 networks. This figure surpasses the viewership of the Trump-Biden debate held in June 2024, which garnered 50 million viewers, marking a 31% increase. The debate also outperformed the Trump-Biden debate in September 2020, which had 73 million viewers. Notably, 62% of the audience were aged 55 and older, while less than 10% were young adults aged 18-34. The Harris-Trump debate now stands as the second most-watched broadcast of 2024, trailing only the Super Bowl LVIII, which had 123.71 million viewers. ABC News led the coverage of the debate.
