U.S. Sanctions Yin Kecheng and Sichuan Juxinhe for Hacks on 9 US Telecoms and Treasury
Jan 17, 2025, 05:12 PM
The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on a Chinese hacker, Yin Kecheng, and a cybersecurity company, Sichuan Juxinhe Network Technology Co., LTD., in response to cyberattacks targeting 9 US telecoms and a breach of the Treasury's own network. Yin Kecheng, a Shanghai-based hacker affiliated with the PRC's Ministry of State Security, was involved in the recent compromise of the Treasury's Departmental Offices network. Sichuan Juxinhe, a Sichuan-based company, was directly involved in the Salt Typhoon cyber group's activities, which compromised the networks of multiple major U.S. telecommunications and internet service providers. These sanctions are part of a broader effort by the U.S. to combat cyber threats from China, following previous actions against other Chinese entities involved in cyber espionage.
