Israeli Airstrikes Hit Russian Hmeimim Airbase in Latakia Overnight
Oct 3, 2024, 03:16 AM
Israeli airstrikes targeted the Russian-operated Hmeimim Airbase in Syria's Latakia province, along with other military sites in the coastal regions of Jableh and Tartous overnight. The strikes reportedly occurred shortly after an Iranian plane, operated by Qeshm Fars Air, arrived at the base. Syrian and Russian air defenses were active but failed to intercept the strikes. The attacks targeted weapons depots and warehouses, with reports indicating that the Israeli Navy, not the Air Force, carried out the strikes. The airstrikes are believed to be aimed at weapons en route to Hezbollah. According to Sham FM, Syrian air defense worked to confront targets over the sea in the Latakia area, and firefighters were working to manage the aftermath.
