Navy Edges Oklahoma 21-20 After Stopping Late Two-Point Conversion in Armed Forces Bowl
Dec 27, 2024, 08:23 PM
Navy defeated Oklahoma 21-20 in the Armed Forces Bowl, securing the win by stopping a last-second two-point conversion attempt orchestrated by Oklahoma coach Brent Venables. Navy quarterback Blake Horvath set a school record with a 95-yard touchdown run, the longest play from scrimmage in Navy history and the longest run allowed by Oklahoma since 1997. Horvath's run tied the game at 14-14 in the third quarter after Navy had trailed 14-0. The Midshipmen then took the lead in the fourth quarter with Horvath's 6-yard touchdown run, completing a surge of 21 unanswered points and holding Oklahoma scoreless for most of the last three quarters. Oklahoma scored a touchdown with six seconds remaining, but Navy's defense held firm on the two-point try, sealing the victory. With this win, Navy achieved its first 10-win season and first bowl victory since 2019, having beaten Army, Air Force, and Memphis this season.
