VisitRomania to Donate Patriot System to Ukraine Amid NATO Talks, USA Suspension
Jun 20, 2024, 12:11 PM
Romania has decided to donate a Patriot air defense system to Ukraine. The decision was made by the Supreme Council of National Defense of Romania and has been confirmed by the official website of the Romanian president. The donation comes in response to the significant deterioration of the security situation in Ukraine due to Russia's ongoing attacks on civilians and infrastructure. Romania will transfer one of its four Patriot batteries to Ukraine, which will now have at least 6-7 Patriot and 2 SAMP-T systems. The donation is conditioned by negotiations with NATO allies for Romania to receive a similar air defense system as a replacement. Additionally, the USA will suspend orders from other countries for Patriot systems to redirect them to Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed gratitude to Romania and President Klaus Iohannis for the crucial contribution, stating that it will bolster Ukraine's air defense shield and help protect the country's people and critical infrastructure from Russian air attacks.
