Russia Unveils 'Yana', Nearly Intact 50,000-Year-Old Baby Mammoth Found in Yakutia

Russian scientists have unveiled on Monday the remarkably well-preserved remains of a nearly intact baby mammoth nicknamed 'Yana', discovered in the permafrost of Yakutia's Batagaika area in Siberia. Estimated to be over 50,000 years old, the juvenile mammoth is one of the most complete specimens ever found and is among only six mammoth remains discovered globally, five of which were found in Russia. The remains, unearthed during the summer of 2024, offer valuable insights into the species and the prehistoric environment they inhabited. Researchers are conducting tests on the specimen to learn more about its preservation and geological age.
