As of December 3, 2024, the results of the U.S. presidential election show Donald Trump leading in the popular vote with 77,125,838 votes, or 49.9%, compared to Vice President Kamala Harris's 74,725,335 votes, or 48.8%. The margin of victory in the popular vote is notably close, making it the second-tightest since 1968. Recent updates from Illinois and New York City have slightly narrowed Trump's lead. In Illinois, newly certified ballots added 6,662 votes for Harris and 4,562 for Trump, reducing Trump's national lead to 2,396,373 votes (1.54%). In New York City, provisional ballots added 159,983 votes for Harris and 52,544 for Trump, further tightening Trump's lead to 2,297,478 votes (1.48%). The ongoing counting of ballots continues to impact the overall vote margin.
