Russian Ballistic Missile Attack on Kyiv Kills One, Injures Nine
Dec 20, 2024, 06:02 AM
On December 20, 2024, Kyiv was struck by a series of Russian missile attacks involving eight ballistic missiles, including Kinzhal and Iskander-M/KN-23, launched from the Bryansk region using MiG-31 aircraft. Explosions were reported across the Ukrainian capital around 7 a.m. local time, following warnings from Ukraine's Air Force of an incoming attack. Debris from intercepted missiles fell in four districts—Holosiivskyi, Solomianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Dnipro—causing fires and damaging buildings, vehicles, and a heat pipeline. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that at least one person was killed and nine others were injured, with emergency services responding to fires and damage across the city. Air defense systems were active and reportedly repelled part of the attack.
