Majority of Americans Back Trump's Deportation Plans: 55% Support All, 87% for Criminals, 63% for Biden-Era Entrants
Jan 18, 2025, 06:51 PM
A recent New York Times/Ipsos poll reveals that a majority of Americans support President-elect Donald Trump's proposed mass deportation policies. The survey, conducted between January 2 and January 10, 2025, with a sample size of 2,128 adults, found that 55% of respondents support deporting all undocumented immigrants in the U.S., while 56% specifically support deporting all illegal immigrants. Support increases to 87% for deporting undocumented immigrants with criminal records, with 88% in favor of deporting those with criminal records. Additionally, 63% of Americans favor deporting those who entered the country illegally during the Biden administration. The poll also highlights a significant divide on other immigration-related issues, such as ending birthright citizenship, with 41% in favor, and the termination of the DACA program, supported by 34% of respondents. Furthermore, 58% of Americans support conducting deportations of illegal/undocumented immigrants. The findings indicate a broad public backing for Trump's immigration agenda as he prepares to take office.
