BLA's Majeed Brigade Suicide Attack Near Karachi Airport Kills Two Chinese Engineers, One Pakistani
Oct 6, 2024, 08:52 PM
A suicide bombing near Karachi's Jinnah International Airport on October 6 targeted a convoy carrying Chinese nationals, resulting in at least two Chinese nationals and one Pakistani killed, and ten others injured, including police and Rangers personnel. The attack occurred when a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) loaded with approximately 80 kilograms of explosives was detonated near the convoy of engineers and investors from the Port Qasim Electric Power Company, which operates a 1,320 MW power plant. The explosion destroyed 12 vehicles, three of which were completely wrecked. The Baloch Liberation Army's (BLA) Majeed Brigade claimed responsibility for the 'fidayeen' attack. Sindh Province's Home Minister, Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, confirmed the incident, stating that among the injured was a foreign national and that the attack targeted vehicles exiting the airport. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack, offering condolences and emphasizing that it was an assault on the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China.
