McDonald's to Resume Quarter Pounder Sales Nationwide After E. coli Outbreak Traced to Onions
Oct 28, 2024, 05:25 AM
McDonald's announced it is resuming sales of its Quarter Pounder burgers at all U.S. restaurants this week after testing ruled out beef patties as the source of a multistate E. coli outbreak that sickened at least 75 people across 13 states, resulted in 22 hospitalizations, and led to at least one death. The company stated that slivered onions from Taylor Farms' Colorado Springs facility are suspected as the likely source of the contamination. As a result, McDonald's has indefinitely stopped sourcing onions from this supplier. Approximately 900 restaurants, about one-fifth of McDonald's U.S. locations, were affected by the outbreak. Affected restaurants will serve Quarter Pounders without slivered onions. McDonald's confirmed that the E. coli outbreak has been contained and that all contaminated products have been removed from its supply chain.
