South Korea's Acting President Han Duck-soo Impeached in Unanimous 192-0 Vote
Dec 27, 2024, 08:07 AM
South Korea's opposition-controlled parliament has unanimously voted to impeach acting President Han Duck-soo in a 192-0 vote, marking the first time an acting president has been impeached. The motion was passed after Han was accused of obstructing an investigation into the failed attempt by ousted President Yoon Suk Yeol to impose martial law earlier this month. Han also refused to appoint Constitutional Court judges needed to proceed with Yoon's removal from office. Yoon was suspended two weeks earlier over the martial law decree. Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok is expected to become the new acting president.
