Jan 22, 2025, 04:17 AM
UCLA secured an 85-83 victory over No. 18 Wisconsin at Pauley Pavilion, overcoming a 41-36 halftime deficit. Freshman 7-foot-3 center Aday Mara led the Bruins with a career-high 22 points, going a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and adding five rebounds and two blocks. Mara became the first Bruin to score over 20 points with a perfect field goal percentage since Jrue Holiday in 2008. The Bruins' bench outscored Wisconsin's bench 41-12, with Sebastian Mack contributing 19 points. Wisconsin's John Tonje, who was scoreless in his previous game, led the Badgers with 24 points, shooting 6-of-7 from three-point range, while John Blackwell added 23 points. The Badgers made 10 of 18 three-pointers in the first half and led by five at halftime. The loss snapped Wisconsin's seven-game winning streak and dropped them to 5-3 in the Big Ten and 15-4 overall. UCLA's defense allowed 83 points, the most in a regulation win under coach Mick Cronin.
