Dec 4, 2024, 02:45 PM
Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare since April 2021, was fatally shot in Manhattan on Wednesday morning in what authorities are calling a targeted attack. The 50-year-old executive was shot in the chest outside the Hilton hotel in Midtown around 6:46 a.m. by a masked gunman wearing a black mask and carrying a grey backpack. The suspect fled the scene on a bicycle, heading eastbound on 6th Avenue into a nearby alley. Thompson was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Thompson was in New York City for the company's investor conference, which was scheduled to start that day but was subsequently halted.
