Toyota to Move First 100 Residents into Woven City at Mount Fuji by Fall 2025
Jan 7, 2025, 01:32 AM
Toyota Motor Corporation plans to begin moving the first 100 residents into its experimental Woven City located in Susono City at the base of Mount Fuji in Japan by fall 2025 or shortly thereafter. Announced by Chairman Akio Toyoda at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, the Woven City is an ambitious project designed to serve as a "living laboratory" for testing and developing new technologies such as autonomous vehicles, robotics, and artificial intelligence. The city, under construction in Shizuoka Prefecture, will eventually house around 2,000 people, including Toyota employees and their families. Companies like Daikin Industries are participating in the project, contributing to the development of next-generation technologies and services. The Woven City will feature autonomous electric vehicles like the Toyota e-Palette for transportation and mobile retail services, as well as the integration of smartphone apps with delivery robots.
