Minnesota Wild Acquire 2022 Sixth Overall Pick David Jiricek from Blue Jackets for Hunt, Picks
Nov 30, 2024, 10:38 PM
The Minnesota Wild have acquired defenseman David Jiricek from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for defenseman Daemon Hunt and multiple draft picks. The Blue Jackets receive Hunt, a conditional 2025 first-round pick (top-5 protected), a 2027 second-round pick, a 2026 third-round pick (previously acquired from Colorado), and a 2026 fourth-round pick. The Wild also receive a 2025 fifth-round pick from the Blue Jackets. Jiricek, the sixth overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, has appeared in 6 NHL games and 4 AHL games this season, recording 2 goals and 1 assist in the AHL. Last season, Hunt tallied 3 goals and 26 assists in 51 games with the Iowa Wild (AHL). Jiricek is expected to be assigned to the Iowa Wild (AHL) initially, possibly for 2-3 weeks, while Hunt has been assigned to the Cleveland Monsters (AHL). The trade includes a condition that if the Wild's 2025 first-round pick is in the top 5, it will shift to 2026, though this is unlikely as the Wild currently hold the second-best record in the NHL.
