Tesla's First Overseas Megapack Factory in Shanghai to Complete by Year-End, Target 40 GWh Capacity

Tesla Inc. is set to complete construction of its new Megapack factory in Shanghai by the end of this year, with operations expected to start in the first quarter of 2025. Located in the Lin-gang Special Area, this facility marks Tesla's first overseas factory dedicated to manufacturing Megapack lithium-ion battery units, following the groundbreaking in late May. The factory will produce 10,000 Megapack units annually, contributing to a grid-scale energy storage capacity of 40 gigawatt-hours. The total investment for the factory is approximately 1.45 billion yuan, or about 201.76 million U.S. dollars.
