Tesla Wins $100M from Biden's CFI Program to Build 345 Charging Ports for Electric Trucks in Illinois
Jan 15, 2025, 04:37 PM
Tesla, in collaboration with three other industry partners—Prologis, Gage Zero, and Pilot—has secured $100 million in federal funding to establish an electric truck charging corridor across Illinois. This award, part of the Biden Administration’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) program, was the largest in the second round of funding, which distributed a total of $636 million to 49 applicants. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), led by state EV officer Megha Lakchaura, spearheaded the application process. The project aims to add 345 charging ports and vehicle stalls at 14 sites, with chargers ranging from 150kW to 1MW. This initiative is expected to enhance the infrastructure for electric trucks in the Midwest, a region previously underserved in terms of heavy-duty electrification.
