Philippine House Impeaches Sara Duterte With 215 Votes, Senate Trial Looms
The Philippine House of Representatives has impeached Vice President Sara Duterte on Wednesday, February 5, setting the stage for a trial in the Senate that could lead to her disqualification from public office. The impeachment was supported by 215 lawmakers, more than two-thirds of the House's 306 members. The move follows three impeachment complaints filed against Duterte, accusing her of violating the Constitution, misuse of public funds, bribery, unexplained wealth, involvement in extrajudicial killings, and sedition. The impeachment complaint was elevated to the House plenary just before the chamber adjourned for the campaign season and elections. The Senate will now conduct a trial, with a two-thirds vote required to convict Duterte and remove her from office.
Proposed Market

Will Sara Duterte be convicted in the Senate trial and removed from office by end of 2025?
Description
Refined RulesThis market will resolve to “Yes” if Sara Duterte is convicted in the Philippine Senate trial and is officially removed from office as a result of this conviction by December 31, 2025, 11:59 PM Philippine Time. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”.
For the purpose of this market, "convicted and removed from office" means that the Senate trial results in a vote where at least two-thirds of the Philippine Senate members vote in favor of conviction, and this leads to her official disqualification and removal from the position of Vice President.
If Sara Duterte resigns or is otherwise removed from office before the conclusion of the Senate trial, this market will resolve to "No" unless the Senate still proceeds with a conviction vote leading to her removal.
If the Senate trial does not conclude with a definitive conviction and removal by the end of 2025, this market will resolve to "No" regardless of the trial's status or outcome after this date.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official records or announcements from the Philippine Senate, as well as credible reporting from established news outlets.
