Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra Appointed RBI Governor for 3 Years, Succeeding Shaktikanta Das

The Indian government has appointed Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a three-year term, effective from December 11, 2024. Malhotra, a 1990-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Rajasthan cadre, will succeed Shaktikanta Das, whose six-year term ends on December 10, 2024. Both Malhotra and Das have previously served as Revenue Secretaries before their appointments as RBI Governors. Malhotra, 56, is an alumnus of IIT Kanpur and holds a master's degree in public policy from Princeton University in the U.S. He is currently serving as Revenue Secretary in the Ministry of Finance. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment, and official notifications have confirmed the news. Malhotra will be the 26th Governor of the RBI.
