Eduardo Paes to Distribute Ozempic and Establish Armed Security Force in Rio

Eduardo Paes, the re-elected mayor of Rio de Janeiro, has announced plans to address obesity and security in the city during his fourth term. Paes confirmed his campaign promise to distribute a generic version of the diabetes and weight-loss drug Ozempic through public health clinics starting in 2026. The initiative, led by the city's Health Secretary Daniel Soranz, aims to combat obesity, a significant public health issue in Rio. Additionally, Paes plans to establish an armed municipal security force to enhance safety in areas controlled by crime. On his first day in office, Paes signed 46 decrees and increased the number of city secretariats to 34.
