South Korea Launches Task Force for Families of 179 Victims of Jeju Air Crash at Muan on Dec. 29, 2024

South Korea has launched a dedicated task force to support the families of victims from the Jeju Air plane crash that occurred on December 29, 2024, at Muan International Airport. The Boeing 737-800 crash claimed 179 lives out of 181 passengers and crew on board. The task force, which began operations on January 20, 2025, will take over the responsibilities of an integrated support center established on the day of the crash. The task force's main office will be in Sejong, with an additional office planned near Muan International Airport. It aims to provide comprehensive support to the affected families and ensure a thorough investigation into the crash's causes. The government has also extended the shutdown of Muan International Airport until April 18, 2025, to facilitate the ongoing investigation. A memorial service for the victims was held 20 days after the crash, attended by government officials and family members, where the government promised a thorough investigation into the incident.
