Cowboys Part Ways with McCarthy; Bears and Saints Express Interest
Jan 13, 2025, 05:18 PM
Mike McCarthy, a Super Bowl-winning coach with a career .608 winning percentage, will not return as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys after failing to reach a new contract agreement with the team. Disagreements over the length of the contract led to the decision, and McCarthy informed his coaching staff this morning that he will be leaving. McCarthy will become a coaching free agent and is expected to pursue opportunities with other teams, including the Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints, who have expressed interest in him. The Cowboys now begin their search for a new head coach as they move in a new direction after five seasons with McCarthy at the helm.
