JBS Acquires 48.5% Stake in South America's Largest Egg Producer Mantiqueira for R$ 1.9 Billion
Jan 27, 2025, 03:43 PM
JBS SA, the world's largest meat producer, has entered the egg sector by acquiring a 48.5% equity stake in Mantiqueira, the largest egg producer in South America, for approximately R$ 920 million. The deal values Mantiqueira at R$ 1.9 billion, with JBS purchasing 50% of the voting rights and sharing control equally with Mantiqueira's founder, Leandro Pinto. This move marks JBS's first foray into the egg market, diversifying its protein portfolio which already includes beef, chicken, pork, aquaculture, and alternative proteins. The transaction is subject to approval by Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade). Mantiqueira produces 4 billion eggs annually and operates in six Brazilian states, with exports to South America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. The partnership aims to expand Mantiqueira's presence in domestic and international markets.
