Steve Witkoff, President-elect Donald Trump's designated Middle East envoy, met with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman al-Thani in Doha on Friday to discuss ongoing negotiations for a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal. Qatar, acting as a mediator alongside Egypt and the United States, briefed Witkoff on the progress of the talks. Witkoff arrived in Israel on Saturday and is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later today. He is pushing for an agreement to be reached within the next few days, before Trump's inauguration on January 20.
