Hamas Releases Three Israelis, Five Thais; Israel Frees 110 Palestinians in Prisoner Exchange
Jan 30, 2025, 08:09 AM
On January 30, 2025, Hamas and Islamic Jihad initiated the third phase of a prisoner exchange agreement with Israel, resulting in the release of Israeli and foreign hostages and Palestinian prisoners. The groups announced the release of three Israeli hostages—Agam Berger, 20, Arbel Yehud, 29, and Gadi Mozes, 80—who had been held in Gaza for 482 days since October 7, 2023. In addition, five Thai nationals were released as part of the exchange. In return, Israel agreed to release 110 Palestinian prisoners, including 32 serving life sentences, 48 with high sentences, and 30 minors. The handover ceremonies were conducted at multiple locations in Gaza, including the former home of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in Khan Yunis and Jabalia, where Hamas staged events to showcase the releases. The International Committee of the Red Cross facilitated the transfer of the hostages to Israeli authorities. The Israeli Defense Forces confirmed the return of the hostages, who were taken for medical assessment upon crossing into Israel. Celebrations were held by families and supporters awaiting their return. The exchange is part of the Al-Aqsa Flood prisoner exchange deal, aiming to secure the release of all hostages held by Hamas and allied groups.
