China Executes Fan Weiqiu and Xu Jiajin for Deadly Attacks Killing 35 in Zhuhai and 8 in Wuxi
Jan 20, 2025, 09:19 AM
China has executed two men for carrying out deadly attacks in November, classified as 'revenge on society crimes.' Fan Weiqiu, 62, was executed for driving his car into a crowd at a sports center in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, killing 35 people and injuring 43. The attack occurred on November 11, 2024, and was described by the Zhuhai Intermediate People's Court as 'extremely vile' and 'particularly cruel.' Fan's motive was linked to his dissatisfaction with the division of property following his divorce. He was convicted of endangering public safety and deprived of political rights for life. Xu Jiajin, 21, was also executed for a separate incident where he stabbed eight people to death and injured 17 at a vocational school in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, on November 16, 2024. Xu's actions were motivated by his failure to obtain a diploma due to poor exam results and dissatisfaction with his internship pay. He was convicted of intentional homicide and also deprived of political rights for life. Both executions were carried out on Monday, following death sentences issued by the Zhuhai and Wuxi Intermediate People's Courts and approved by the Supreme People's Court.
