German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a surprise visit to Kyiv on Monday, his first trip to Ukraine in over two and a half years, to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Traveling by train through a country that has been defending itself against Russian aggression for over 1,000 days, Scholz announced that Germany would provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth €650 million ($680 million), including weapons deliveries planned to be completed by December.
