Eni's €100M HPC6 Supercomputer, 5th Fastest Globally, Aims to Enhance Oil and Gas Exploration
Dec 26, 2024, 11:05 AM
Italian energy giant Eni has launched a new supercomputer, named HPC6, at a cost of over €100 million. The supercomputer, equipped with nearly 14,000 AMD graphics processing units, is designed to enhance Eni's capabilities in discovering new oil and gas reservoirs. Located in Ferrera Erbognone, Italy, the HPC6 is the most powerful supercomputer outside the United States and ranks fifth globally in terms of speed, achieving a benchmark of 477 petaflops per second. Eni aims to use the supercomputer not only for oil and gas exploration but also to advance its clean energy initiatives and decarbonization strategies.
