Captain Omer Maxim Neutra, a 21-year-old American-Israeli soldier from New York, has been confirmed dead by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Neutra, a lone soldier who moved to Kibbutz Afikim, served as a tank platoon commander in the 77th Battalion of the 7th Armored Brigade. He was killed on October 7, 2023, during Hamas's attack near Nir Oz in southern Israel. His tank was disabled and ambushed, and his body was abducted by Hamas into Gaza, where it remains held. Neutra is survived by his parents, Orna and Ronen, who had hoped for his safe return.
