Brazil's federal tax revenue reached a record high of R$ 2.71 trillion in 2024, marking the highest amount in the historical series that began in 1995. The increase was driven by a combination of economic growth and fiscal policies, including the reimposition of taxes on fuels and new taxation on offshore funds and exclusive investment funds. In December alone, the federal government collected R$ 261.3 billion, a real increase of 7.78% compared to the same month in 2023. This performance was attributed to improved macroeconomic indicators, enhanced collection of PIS/Cofins on fuels, and a 14.84% rise in corporate income tax (IRPJ) and social contribution on net profit (CSLL). Despite the record revenue, the government faced a fiscal deficit of 0.1% of GDP, excluding emergency spending on natural disasters.
