Toronto Blue Jays Sign Anthony Santander to Five-Year, $90 Million Deal, Pending Physical
Jan 20, 2025, 05:52 PM
The Toronto Blue Jays have reportedly signed free agent outfielder Anthony Santander to a five-year contract worth more than $90 million. The deal, which is pending a physical, includes a club option for a sixth year that could increase the total value to $110 million. Santander, a switch-hitter who hit a career-high 44 home runs last season with the Baltimore Orioles, will add significant power to the Blue Jays' lineup. The agreement also includes an opt-out clause for Santander after the third year, with the Blue Jays having the ability to void this opt-out and extend the contract to six years and $110 million at that point. The signing comes after the Blue Jays missed out on other high-profile free agents and is expected to bolster their offensive capabilities alongside players like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette. Santander, who was an AL All-Star last year, brings over 40 home runs to the team.
