Austria Appoints Alexander Schallenberg as Interim Chancellor for Second Stint

Alexander Schallenberg, Austria's Foreign Minister, has been appointed as the interim Chancellor following the resignation of Karl Nehammer. This marks Schallenberg's second stint as Chancellor, having previously served briefly in 2021 after the resignation of Sebastian Kurz. A member of the ÖVP, Schallenberg will lead the transitional government until a new coalition is formed. The announcement was made by President Alexander Van der Bellen on Wednesday.
