Elon Musk has publicly endorsed Germany's far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. Speaking via video link at an AfD rally in Halle attended by 4,500 people, Musk urged German voters to support the party in the upcoming February 23 election, stating that it "could decide the fate of Europe, maybe the fate of the world." He said, "It's okay to be proud to be German," and called the AfD "the best hope for Germany." Musk encouraged Germans to "fight for a bright future" and criticized the German government's suppression of free speech, alleging that authorities are imprisoning individuals for mild criticism of politicians or social media posts. He remarked that there is "too much focus on past guilt" in Germany, adding that "children should not feel guilty for the sins of their parents— their great grandparents even." His remarks have drawn criticism from German media outlets like BILD, which accused him of using "Nazi talk."
