Dutch Court Sentences Five Men Up to Six Months for Antisemitic Attacks on Israeli Fans at Ajax-Maccabi Match
Dec 24, 2024, 02:44 PM
A Dutch court in Amsterdam has convicted five men for their roles in violent attacks against Israeli football fans in November, incidents that sparked accusations of antisemitism. The violence occurred around a UEFA Europa League match between Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam and Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv. The court sentenced the men to up to six months in prison and community service for crimes including assaulting and kicking Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters and inciting violence online. Five Israelis were severely injured in the attacks, and 20 to 30 others sustained minor injuries. Authorities are reportedly still investigating at least 45 additional suspects involved in the violence. The relatively lenient sentences have been criticized by some, given the severity of the attacks.
