Stolen Ruby Slippers Sell for Record $32.5 Million at Auction
Dec 8, 2024, 12:35 AM
Judy Garland's iconic ruby slippers from the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz" have been sold at auction for a record-breaking $32.5 million, significantly surpassing their initial estimate of $3 million. The sale sets a new benchmark for Hollywood memorabilia, exceeding the previous record of $5.52 million paid for Marilyn Monroe's dress from "The Seven Year Itch." The slippers were stolen from the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 2005 by Terry Jon Martin and were recovered by the FBI in 2018. The auction was conducted by Heritage Auctions in Dallas on Saturday.
