Amaury Pasos, Two-Time World Champion and FIBA Hall of Famer, Dies at 89

Amaury Pasos, a Brazilian basketball legend, passed away at the age of 89 in São Paulo. Known for his significant contributions to Brazilian basketball, Pasos was a two-time world champion with Brazil, winning titles in 1959 and 1963. He was also the only Brazilian to be elected MVP twice in these world championships. Pasos played a key role in Brazil's Olympic campaigns, securing bronze medals in Rome 1960 and Tokyo 1964. His club career was highlighted by his time with Corinthians, where he won two Brazilian championships. The Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CBB) declared a three-day mourning period for Brazilian basketball following his death. Pasos was honored in the FIBA Hall of Fame, and his wake was open to fans in São Paulo.
