The game marked the Longhorns' first official SEC men's basketball game and the renewal of the Lone Star Showdown rivalry. Tied at halftime 37-37, the Aggies surged in the second half, outscoring Texas 43-23, including a 15-2 run to start the half. Texas A&M's dominance in the paint was a key factor, with a 48-16 scoring advantage inside and 24 points from free throws. Zhuric Phelps led the Aggies with 18 points, while Pharrel Payne contributed 15 points and five rebounds. Wade Taylor IV added 13 points to the Aggies' effort.
