The UK government has announced a significant financial commitment to address the issue of potholes across England, with a total of £1.6 billion allocated for the next financial year. This funding represents a £500 million increase over the previous year's budget and is expected to enable the repair of approximately seven million potholes. The allocation of funds includes over £327 million for the North West, North East, and Yorkshire and Humber; more than £372 million for the East Midlands and West Midlands; over £244 million for the East of England; and more than £378 million for the South East, South West, and London. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander highlighted the government's commitment to reversing a decade of decline in road conditions, aiming to improve safety and journey times for motorists.
