Egg Prices to Rise Further, Up 40% Amid Bird Flu Killing 100 Million Hens
Jan 18, 2025, 06:47 PM
Eggs are poised to become even more expensive, according to Patrick Penfield, a professor and supply chain expert at Syracuse University’s School of Management. Currently, eggs are nearly 40% more expensive than they were a year ago, as reported by the Labor Department. This increase is attributed to a massive bird flu outbreak that has led to the death of more than 100 million egg-laying hens. The peak of egg prices was in January 2023, when the average cost reached $4.82 a dozen nationwide due to a major bird flu spike.
