Taiwan to Launch NT$110 Million Drone R&D Subsidy for AI Imaging Chips, Low-Cost Flight Controllers, and Build UAV Testing Facility in Chiayi
Dec 23, 2024, 02:41 AM
Taiwan is set to launch a NT$110 million drone chip research and development subsidy program in 2024, aimed at enhancing the production of critical drone components such as AI imaging chips and low-cost flight controllers. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to establish a 'non-Red' drone supply chain, in response to China's export controls on drone components and the ongoing geopolitical tensions highlighted by Russia's war against Ukraine. Taiwan is positioning itself as a potential hub for drone production for democratic allies. Additionally, plans are underway to construct a large unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) testing facility in Chiayi County, which will support the establishment of a robust drone supply chain and increase Taiwan's share in the global market for drones. This follows the announcement of an Asia UAV AI Innovation Application R&D Center at the same location last year.
