Dec 9, 2024, 08:42 PM
President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, is moving closer to confirmation as key Republican Senator Joni Ernst announced her support following a second "very good meeting." Hegseth, an Iraq and Afghanistan veteran, has committed to completing a full audit of the Pentagon and to select a senior official who will uphold the roles and value of servicemen and women and prioritize preventing sexual assault within the ranks. His nomination has garnered significant backing, including from Mark Levin and over 100 Navy SEAL veterans planning a march in his support on the first day of his confirmation hearing. Hegseth noted that he and Ernst are "two combat veterans" dedicated to defense. Rep. Andy Biggs stated that Hegseth is "really close to having the votes" needed for confirmation.
