Golden Helmet and Three Gold Bracelets Stolen from Drents Museum After Explosion, Interpol Notified
Jan 25, 2025, 12:19 PM
A significant theft occurred at the Drents Museum in Assen, Netherlands, where valuable pieces from Romania's Dacian treasure were stolen following an explosion. The stolen items include the Golden Helmet of Coțofenești and three gold bracelets. The explosion, which took place around 3:45 a.m., facilitated the thieves' entry into the museum, which was hosting the exhibition 'Dacia! Regatul aurului și argintului' in collaboration with the National History Museum of Romania. The exhibition showcased 673 items from 18 Romanian museums, representing over 50 treasures. The Dutch police are investigating the incident, with no arrests made so far, and have found a burnt-out car nearby, believed to be connected to the crime. Interpol has been notified, and the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been informed, with assurances from Dutch authorities of a committed effort to resolve the case and recover the stolen artifacts. The director of the Drents Museum, Harry Tupan, described the day as 'a black day' for both museums. Romanian Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu discussed the case with his Dutch counterpart, Caspar Veldkamp, emphasizing the cultural and symbolic importance of the stolen pieces.
