Ukraine's Military Chief Calls for Offensive Strategy, Developing Air Defense to Counter Oreshnik Missile
Jan 19, 2025, 08:17 PM
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, has emphasized that Ukraine cannot win the ongoing war solely through defensive strategies. In a series of statements, Syrsky highlighted the need for Ukraine to leverage its advantages, including being the first to establish Drone Forces and expanding capabilities in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), robotic platforms, and ground combat systems. Additionally, Syrsky admitted that Ukraine currently lacks systems capable of intercepting Russia's Oreshnik missile system, which was used in a test strike on Dnipro in November. In response, Ukraine is actively working on developing its own air defense system, aiming to create a complex that rivals the performance of the U.S.-made Patriot system. Syrsky also mentioned ongoing efforts to negotiate with allies for such systems and the development of a modern missile system as a deterrent against Russian weapons.
